BLUE PRINTS(DICE VIEWER) BLUE NYC / Red Britain
Blue NYC / Red Britain BLUE PRINTS I first colored the suburbs of the Great London trough monochrom color landscape drowned in a deep red as an atomic sky. Those monochromic color field pictures were not just contemporary negation of naturalism but also an aesthetic display to stamp violence of growing architecture and cities. I used the same technique as i did in London to fill in a deep blue cobalt the city of New York using an old stained glass as a filter. As an archetypal primitivism reference to the cyanotype technique which spread into the photographic amateur population in the end of the XIX and beginning of XX after the ferrotype, BLUE PRINTS is a photographic serie mixing conceptual display and social photography. The concept of filling the image with one color have something to do directly with the color field painting mouvement and with the social concept of race at the same era. The blue monochrom is a direct reference to modern painting in NY in the 60’s as to civic rights mouvements trough the question of color making everybody equal. A simple display erasing the skin difference for an unexpected reality, creating movie stills in mouvement with unknown actors, bridge, large streets, rivers as endless décor. Mostly taken place in dowtown, Harlem and the Husdon River. This work was also for me a protocol to renew street photography practice far away from the decisive moment with colored landscapes, social content and topographical distance. Romaric Tisserand.
